While it’s crucial for Muslim parents to engage actively with their children’s schools—building partnerships, advocating for the removal of inappropriate materials, and challenging a narrow teaching of ‘sexual orientation’ that promotes ‘LGBT’ identities over factual education—it is equally important to be aware of and address the influences shaping our children outside of school.
This presentation explores holistic solutions that should guide parents in raising their children. There are two key areas where our children may be vulnerable:
1. Foundational Weakness: When Muslim children practice Islam as a cultural tradition rather than understanding it as the definitive truth about life’s purpose and meaning, they become vulnerable. How can we nurture foundational strength in our children? This is discussed in part 1.
Emotional Insecurity: Children who grow up without feeling loved are more likely to seek fulfilment through fleeting trends. Love, especially from a father, is a fundamental need for every child. What steps can we take to foster emotional security in our children? This is discussed in part 2.
3. Disrupting Normalisation: Various values, identities, and behaviours are being normalised through the media, social media, books, and TV programmes. Among these are ‘LGBT’ identities. While it is important to treat all people with kindness, we are not obliged to alter our moral perspectives on families and marriages, which we believe should be between a man and a woman. How do these identities become normalised, and how can we effectively disrupt the normalisation of ‘LGBT’ identities? This is discussed in this presentation.
