What we do

The Muslim Family Initiative (formerly SREIslamic) supports parents and empowers communities.

2024-25 Goals

  • Recruit, train and provide ongoing support to 300 RSE Champions in all the major cities and towns with large Muslim populations across England, Wales and Scotland to raise awareness and support parents.
  • To publish an advocacy report setting out the concerns Muslim parents have with the implementation of RSE in England’s schools.  To look at publishing similar reports for Wales and Scotland.
  • To develop resources to support Muslim parents navigate RSE/RSHP in schools and empower parents to build strong, Muslim families equipped to speak to their children about sex, relationships, and ‘LGBTQ’ identities.
  • To design and roll out a maktab/madrassah curriculum that empowers Muslim children to develop a strong Muslim identity.

Muslim Family Initiative

As our work expanded beyond England to Wales and Scotland we wanted a name which reflected this. Muslim parents needed to be assured that despite the challenges, we have a strength we often take for granted – the Muslim family. Responding to the contemporary challenges rests upon children who possess foundational strength and emotional security. Strong children are built within strong Muslim homes. Whilst much of society has either undermined the important role family plays or it has been redefined and made meaningless.

The Muslim Family Initiative is driven by a desire to fulfil its mission. To build strong, Muslim families that are equipped to meet the contemporary challenges.
